さて、中国のアフリカ進出は留まるところをしりません。さらに、従来のように、お金をばらまくというより、お金も出して、さらにアフリカの地に根付いて活動しているので、アフリカ諸国からの信頼も着実に得ています。
果たして、日本はアフリカで中国とどう立ち向かうのでしょうか？
よもや中国の圧勝ということはないと信じますが・・・

BEIRUT ? Nearly one-half million Syrians have fled to Lebanon because of Syria's ongoing civil war. Many of these are families living in makeshift camps. But there is also a significant number of unaccompanied young men trying to survive in Lebanon's cities.
Near a construction site in central Beirut, Mahmoud, 20 -- he gives only his first name -- is selling bread from a bicycle cart.
He fled his home in Aleppo a year ago as the uprising against the Assad government became increasingly violent.

Japan Shares Plunge Following Negative Chinese Data

Stocks in Asia and Europe plunged Thursday after a report unexpectedly showed Chinese manufacturing is shrinking.
Japan's Nikkei stock index tumbled 7.3 percent after the report's release showing Chinese factory production dropped in May for the first time in seven months. It was the Nikkei's biggest one-day loss since Japan's March 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster.
Stocks in London, Paris and Frankfurt followed suit, closing down more than two percent. U.S. markets closed down slightly.
Economic growth in China, the world's second-largest economy, remains ahead of the government's 7.5 percent target for 2013. But its 7.8 percent growth last year was the slowest in 13 years.
The drop in the Nikkei index - 1,143 points - was its 11th largest ever.
Markets fared little better elsewhere in Asia. Sydney closed down nearly two percent. South Korean shares fell 1.2 percent. Shanghai and Hong Kong also were down.

Stocks in Asia and Europe plunged Thursday after a report unexpectedly showed Chinese manufacturing is shrinking.
Japan's Nikkei stock index tumbled 7.3 percent after the report's release showing Chinese factory production dropped in May for the first time in seven months. It was the Nikkei's biggest one-day loss since Japan's March 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster.
Stocks in London, Paris and Frankfurt followed suit, closing down more than two percent. U.S. markets closed down slightly.
Economic growth in China, the world's second-largest economy, remains ahead of the government's 7.5 percent target for 2013. But its 7.8 percent growth last year was the slowest in 13 years.
The drop in the Nikkei index - 1,143 points - was its 11th largest ever.

英語の単位は,一,十,百,千,万,十万・・・とはなっていないので特に大きな数字を表現するの難しいかも知れません。

数百万・・・several million（複数になりません）
１億は百万が100個で one hundred million(複数ではありません）
１０億・・・billion
３億・・・three tenth of billion（10億の10分の3）
hundredとthousandは複数になります
millionとbillionは複数になりません
まあ、英語の数字はややこしいです。
"one in a million...千載一遇のチャンス
one in a thousandではありません。
百万に１つの確率ということですね。
"billionaire"...億万長者
ついでに、「万が一」は
one in ten thousands なんてことはありませんね。
英語では数え切れないほどの表現があります。
"by any possibility" とか"if by any chance"とかが使われます。
「万が一」を直訳するのではなく、もしあったら、とかほとんど有り得ないと訳せば分かります。
日本語に執着しないように、軽く考えて、英語を載せてください。訳すのではなく、載せるのです。

The World Bank forecasts, by 2030, “developing countries’ share in global investment is projected to triple” to nearly 160-trillion dollars. Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President Kaushik Basu said that “demographic changes will profoundly influence structural shifts.”
“Population will increase from the current roughly seven billion to eight-point-five billion at the end of 2030. Some societies will be well advanced in the process of aging. The demographic bulge in different countries will progress at different paces. And the big question that should concern us all is what will happen to the major drivers of growth and development, namely savings and investment ? and in particular, infrastructural investment.”
The report is being released during ? what Basu called ? troubling times. He said there is a “decoupling between the world of finance and the real economy.”
“By most financial indicators we are doing better, distinctly better, actually, than a year ago. But if you look at the real economy, including the news that came from Europe, the recession is prolonging. Europe is probably into the longest stagnation since 1945. There is a trap lurking at every level of income for every country. Policymakers have to be aware of that,” he said.
He admitted that long-term economic forecasting can be difficult. However, he said that the Global Development Horizons report reveals “a host of interesting trends.”
“By 2030, we are also being told that China and India will be the largest investors in the world. Developing countries will account for 47 to 60 percent of global capital flows in 2030. This is an amazing shift from the current roughly 23 percent,” he said.
That’s expected to continue until the late 2030s, when another region will rise.
“At that stage,” he said, “the demographic dividend will be on the rise in sub-Saharan Africa. A lot of our global attention will no doubt turn to the great opportunities that will happen in sub-Saharan Africa.”
The report paints a scenario of deeper financial market development there. It adds that foreign investors will become much more willing to invest in the region. Also, sub-Saharan Africa will have a much younger labor force than many other parts of the world.
“By 2030, for every dollar that will be invested in the world 60 cents will be invested in developing countries. This is a dramatic change with respect to the past. For almost four decades, from the 60s to the 90s and 2000, the investments were only 20 cents to the dollar. So this is a major change,” said Maurizio Bussolo, lead author of the World Bank report.
Bussolo added that by 2019, total investment share in developing countries will overtake the total investment by developed nations.
“This is happening even though we foresee the investment rates coming down across all the regions. This is because growth will decelerate from [a] very high level and there will be a lot of churning within countries where investment will shift toward service sectors from agricultural and manufacturing.”

Obama said the United States and Britain will continue to increase pressure on the Assad regime, strengthen Syria's "moderate opposition" and prepare for a Syria without Assad.
"If, in fact, we can broker a peaceful political transition that leads Assad's departure, but a state in Syria that is still intact, that accommodates the interests of all the ethnic groups and all the religious groups inside of Syria, and that ends the bloodshed, stabilizes the situation, that is not just going to be good for us, that will be food for everybody, and we're going to be very persistent in trying to make that happen," said Obama.
Syria's opposition coalition insists President Assad cannot remain in power as part of a negotiated agreement. Rebels said they are consulting with key Arab state backers and Turkey, before deciding whether to participate.

"Both the Russian president, the American president, and myself, I think we can all see that the current trajectory of how things are going is not actually in anybody's interest, so it is worth this major diplomatic effort, which we are all together leading, this major diplomatic effort to bring the parties to the table to achieve a transition at the top in Syria, so that we can make the change that country needs," said Cameron.

事実関係を把握できるように訳文に（ ）を入れてそのフレーズの主語/目的等をはっきりさせました。実際にニュース記事を読むときは、それぞれのフレーズの主語や目的は何かを考えて関係を整理していく必要があるからです。

今日の話題は、先日のイスラエルの空爆です。

Q.スンニ派とシーア派はなぜ対立するのですか？
A.イスラム教は、多数の信者を有する大宗教にしては珍しいほど分派が少ない宗教です。キリスト教や仏教の分派の数は、 覚えきれないほど数多く存在していますが、イスラム教の場合は、正統派（多数派）であるスンニー派以外には、シーア派、 ドルーズ派、アラウィ派が知られている程度です。 また、これらの分派が発生した主たる理由も、キリスト教や仏教の分派と異なり、教義の相違に基くものではなく、宗教指導者の 正統性など政治的(?）な見解の相違に端を発しています（分派が宗派として独立する段階では教義の違いも生じていますが)。 それだけに正統派（多数派）と分派の対立は常に権力闘争の様相を呈し、世俗の政争と区別がつきません。
打続く権力闘争は過激派誕生の温床であり、合法的な権力闘争が過激な爆弾闘争に至る例は世界中にゴロゴロしています。
スンニー派もシーア派も、一般信徒は他派の信者を殺しはしません。爆弾闘争を行っているのは排他的な狂信者か、宗教の衣をま とった権力亡者とその手下のいずれかでしょう。こう考えれば、殺し合いの理由を普通の醜い権力闘争として説明できるのではないでしょうか。

A.「自主独立なんかよりもその日その日をのほほんと暮らせれば良いなんて考えを持てるのは、

経済的な問題で言えば
チェチェンには十分な油田がありますので自主独立も可能です。そもそもの紛争の原因の"１つ"は、
この油田の利権をめぐる争いでもあります。
歴史的な経緯で言えば
チェチェンは元々、ロシア、トルコ、ペルシャ（イラン）に挟まれた小国でありましたが、厳しい地形のおかげで
何度も支配を打ち返してきました。18世紀中頃からついにロシアに屈服する訳ですが、その際の征服戦争にも
頑固に抵抗を続け、実に人口の2/3が死んだと言われています。
ロシア革命のおり彼らは当然独立を目指し、共産党側につくことで自治の約束をとりつけ、革命後はソ連に組み込まれましたが
自治州となります。が、それは形だけのことで、連邦は厳しい宗教弾圧を加え、それでも抵抗を諦めない彼らを民族ごと
カザフスタンに移住させるなど徹底的な民族解体を図りますが、そういった徹底的な弾圧は返って強固な団結を生むことになります。
ここまでされた彼らが、のほほんとロシア人の支配下に留まる訳も無く、91年ソ連崩壊後、92年のロシア連邦への参加の
調印を拒むことになる訳です（ロシア内の21の共和国のうち拒んだのは２国だけです）。
ただこの辺の経緯は複雑で、91年当時の時点ではまだそれほど反ロシアではありません。国民投票でも70％以上がソ
連邦存続に賛成しています。ペレストロイカ、ソ連邦の解体の混乱の折、それまで彼らの宗教（スーフィズムと言われる
イスラム教と土着の宗教が合体したもの）は比較的穏やかだったのですが、場所によっては失業率が80％を越えるような
経済状況で、イスラム原理主義が入り込み支持を受けるようになります。原理主義は強烈な「反ロ反欧」です。
で、それを懸念したロシアは94年についに武力侵攻を行い、あっけなく首都を落としましたが、ゲリラ戦に持ち込まれ壊滅します。
この後も何度か侵攻を企てますがいずれも撃退され、96年には事実上の独立を果たし、97年には大統領選挙が行われ、
独立派のマスハドフ氏が当選しています。
99年今度はチェチェン人が隣国のタゲスタンに侵入したことをきっかけに、ロシア軍が再び侵攻。以降凄惨な内戦となり「
殺す・奪う・破壊する」（男は皆殺し、女は全員レイプ。ゲリラ兵に女性が多いのはそういう理由です。ところで女性がテロを
するのがショックなのは、そこまで追い詰められているということに対してショックなんでしょうか）。というような状況下で
行われた2003年の選挙はロシア連邦の主導で行われ、当然独立派が参加しておらず、且つロシアのかいらいであるカディロフ氏の
有力な対立候補に圧力をかけて出馬させないというむちゃくちゃな選挙です。
武力弾圧は激しくなれば、テロは先鋭化します。そしてテロリストというレッテルを貼られることで対外的な支持を失うと。
この辺の事情はパレスティナ問題と一緒。そしてなぜなぜロシアが批判されないかというとこれもイスラエルと一緒。
ちなみに米上院議会ではこういう証言もされています。
『第一次チェチェン戦争は、エリツィン大統領再選のために必要であった。今回の戦争は、エリツィン大統領が自ら選んだ
